Services Overview
The therapeutically intensive treatment services are focused on short-term psychiatric stabilization and improvement. A comprehensive set of clinical assessments is completed for each patient entering the Acute Adult Inpatient Services. This includes a nursing assessment, a diagnostic evaluation, and psychosocial history in conjunction with the patient, family, and records. All throughout this process, a case manager puts emphasis on discharge planning, referral sources, and transition to the community.
The services incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy, which provides reinforcement for appropriate self-management. Patients learn strategies for productive problem solving, receive evaluation of dysfunctional thinking patterns, and develop healthy coping responses. Therapists are skilled at coordinating insight oriented, cognitive behavioral therapies to obtain desired results for each patient.
Inpatient Service Components
A psychiatrist oversees the operation of the program while attending physicians develop, in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team of skilled professionals, an individualized treatment plan for each patient which may include the following services:
- Comprehensive diagnostic assessment
- Comprehensive diagnostic assessment
- Medication intervention, monitoring and education
- Nursing supervision
- Psychoeducational groups
- Therapeutic recreational activities, occupational therapy and art therapy
- Aftercare and transition planning
The psychiatrist ensures the implementation of treatment goals in the milieu, provides comprehensive medication management, and meets frequently with the patients to ensure that patients receive all necessary services.
Discharge/Aftercare Services
Discharge planning begins on the day of admission and continues throughout the course of treatment. Emphasis is placed on designing a treatment plan that will help to ensure a successful transition into the home or community. In preparation for return to the least restrictive community setting possible, the patient, family, referring professional and payer expectations are incorporated into the treatment planning process. Before each patient is discharged, a case manager assists in establishing an appropriate network of community-based support.
