    Giving to Kahi Mohala

Kāhi Mōhala opened its doors as the only free-standing, not-for-profit psychiatric hospital in Hawai‘i in 1983. Since then, we’ve restored hope and changed lives for more than 27,000 children, adolescents and adults. We help patients and their loved ones through some of the most difficult experiences they will ever face. We are privileged to share in many families’ greatest joys – surviving and thriving after a life threatening mental health crisis.

Kāhi Mōhala is committed to the not-for-profit model of health care and provides community benefit services for people who cannot afford health care, are indigent, and for those who are uninsured or under-insured. We believe this community-owned, not-for-profit approach to health care best serves the patients and families who count on us for their care.

Philanthropy plays a significant role in helping us meet the needs of the people and communities we serve throughout the Hawaiian Islands, the Pacific Rim and the mainland U.S.

Donations like yours enable the hospital to provide the highest degree of psychiatric care, fund capital improvement projects, education programs, and charity care.
Together, we can foster a healthy future for patients - regardless of their ability to pay. All funds raised are used locally to serve the behavioral health care needs of our community.

Over the past five years, Kāhi Mōhala has provided a total of $2.86 million in quantifiable community benefits, averaging $573,000 annually on behalf of Hawai‘i residents. Donations enable the hospital to fund this charity care, insuring that the highest quality psychiatric care is available to all.

Recent projects that community donations have helped make possible include:

    • Lokelani Unit for Children and Adolescents Renovation (Phase I)
    • ROPES Challenge Course Renovation
    • Mokihana Acute Adult Unit Renovation
    • Lehua Adult Unit ADA Bathroom Retrofit
